Purpose

Our goal in Battlegrounds is straight forward.  We strive to provide the greatest number of opportunities for the most awards for as many members as possible.  This means creating as many opportunities for low attrition battles/negotiations as possible and effectively communicating them to our guild.   Our goal is not to own the map or even to win a round.  We will usually play in cooperation with other guilds, so communication and following directions will be crucial to our success. We gain so much by simply swapping sectors with other guilds.  For this reason getting off to a strong start in a season can make or break the wholes season.  Strong guilds want to swap with other guilds they perceive as being strong.  Its like a job interview.  Please help us give a good first impression by being there to help at 8:00 am, game time, when the seasons start.  Help us work successfully with the other guilds for the good of our guild and all of our members.  Remember that GBG is a rewards machine that all of us can benefit from.

As GBG is the game activity that helps us most to advance our guild as well as our individual members, all members are STRONGLY encouraged to participate.  A minimum goal for all members should be to get at least 20 points per day. This is only 10 negotiations or 20 battles. Hopefully most will far surpass this minimal amount. The Forge Point awards paid out from doing GBG in Diamond League is generally the number of battles times 1.6.  This means 160 forge points per 100 battles in addition to the other awards. This makes it a very worthwhile activity for the individuals participating.

This is a team sport!  Success will largely be determined by communication and a teamwork ethos.  This means taking on the tough attrition increasing sectors  and not only waiting for the easy, no or low attrition sectors.  What this accomplishes is an undue burden on those taking on the tough job and giving higher awards to those who don't.  We need to share in the pain.  If you don't usually do a lot of GBG this is a good time for you to contribute to the cause.  GBG is a source of needed forge points and many do it as much as possible for that reason.

It is important for those who have GBG rights to communicate opportunities to the guild when they occur.  If you build Siege Camps you NEED to announce the sector or sectors you are going to attack before you start attacking it.  The goods to build these come from the guild treasury which is mostly supplied by our member's treasury buildings. (Arc, Obs, SOH's...etc)  A member who takes the initiative will generally be rewarded with more opportunities regardless.  It pays to step up and will be appreciated if it is done in an unselfish manner.

HAVE FUN and get ready to light up the map!

Hand with a slash means "do not attack" or "do not cap."

Cross hair symbol means to "FILL" a sector.  Generally for Diamond league this means to stop at 150 / 160. For Platinum League 120 / 130.  NEVER "CAP" or TAKE a sector without clearly being informed to do so.

Leadership

It is essential for the GBG success, that ALL members who have GbG rights unlocked, agree to the following principles.

  A. Communicate GBG opportunities to the guild each time there is a chance at rewards.  When you build Siege Camps and plan to attack, please announce it to the guild in advance.  It should be treated the same as when there are no Siege Camps, and you want more members helping to spread the attrition increase on a tough sector.

  B.  Leadership for our purposes, and for now, is defined as those who "at the time" are coordinating our actions with other guilds, or appointed as leaders by guild leadership and have GBG rights.  For now we are experimenting with a "whoever takes the initiative model."  No official hierarchy is in place because of the 24 hour nature of GBG, it will take a cooperative effort to navigate thru each round.

  C.  Respect each others signals and communicate reasons for placing them.  If you place either a target symbol or a do not attack symbol on a sector please communicate your reasons in the GBG thread.  Others with the same rights should not simply ignore these marks or remove them.  Communicate... State what you think we should do and your reasons for it before proceeding.

  D.  To quickly chart a course towards sectors we can build in, press the "D" key.  This will show you all the map addresses and how many buildings are possible in each sector. "FOE Helper" is very useful as well. If you are using it and you click on the Icon that looks like three flags (blue/white/red), It will list the amount of time left for sectors to unlock. This can be a great aid enabling more advance notice to our members and help to increase participation.

  E.  If building a Siege Camp (SC) or Watchtower (WT) in a sector please do so right after we cap/take it. This will save our members diamonds because they won't have to come back later and diamond build them because they weren't started when they should have been.  Always consider the treasury balances when deciding whether or not to build in a sector.  Goods expenses are random, but limited to the ages of the cities in the guild.  We shouldn't be asked to produce goods to build that are from an age we don't have a city in at the start of a season.  It is important to point out that SC's cost six times what a WT cost in goods but only give three times the extra benefit.  For game play the goal should be build at least four(4) Siege Camps, combined, in adjacent sectors to support attacks.  This will provide a 96% chance of no increase in attrition.  Adding a Watchtower to the mix would make it a zero(0) chance of attrition increases.

Guidelines

***1. All members should frequently stop attacking to check messages, especially as we approach completing or reaching "hold," or (150/160) on a sector, to see if there are any changes or updates in instructions. (Exception to this is when we are in a race to capture a sector.)  Hopefully members will recognize this when it is happening.

***2. The GBG thread and sometimes the main Guild thread will be used to communicate the needs and instructions from GBG leadership. This will be considered priority guild communication so please take other issues to the chat thread.

***3. Generally our "hold" position, or where we will STOP attacking a sector, is when there are 10 points remaining before it is completed, "capped," or taken. Timing on when to cap a sector is a major part of strategy in GBG.  If we hold a sector long enough to allow our opponent to take an adjacent sector, the time spread between the two unlocking will give our guild an advantage for the next round of fighting because we will be able to attack their sector while ours is still locked.

***4. If you don't see the numbers/points changing on a sector, please exit GBG to refresh, and return double checking their accuracy to make sure we don't take a sector before we are ready to.  Also, if you are unsure about attacking , please ask!  Remember most of what we are doing is in coordination with other guilds.  We need to be a reliable partner.  Communication is the key!!!

***5. If there is no leadership present and you see a sector open, please announce it in the GBG thread prior to hitting, but please DO NOT CAP it,unless you are certain its the right time to do so.   If you cap a sector in these circumstances please state you did so in the GBG thread.

***6. WALKERS: A single walker should generally be assigned to walk sectors from "hold" or 150, to 158 (if Diamond league). No one should be walking without being assigned. Multiple walkers can cause an accidental cap, which can make a partner guild NOT want to work with us.  This would cost our members in awards opportunities.  If no one is around to assign sectors, announce in the GBG thread that you are doing the walking in a particular sector to avoid accidental caps.

***7. Speed can be critical.  Please jump in and help in GBG when you see an announcement.  It is also important in the beginning to share the pain in attrition.  This means spread the increase in attrition between as many as possible.  Please don't just sit back and let one or two members take a sector and run up their attrition, taking themselves out for the day while you sit back and wait for Siege Camps to be put in to go after the next sector.  This is selfish play and it IS noticed!  We need to be a team so please don't cause conflict by doing this.

***8. As building in sectors requires a large amount of treasury goods it is VERY important that all members seek to put in fully leveled Statues of Honor or Great Elephants, preferably one for each age. This effort should include reaching at least level 80 with your Arcs and leveling up an Observatory to 60 as well.  It is advised to invest a significant portion of awards towards leveling up these treasury GBs.

The chart above shows the defending Army's boost that you would be facing while attacking based on your level of attrition.  This is why having a high attack boost is critical.  It will allow you more battles and more awards in GBG because you can continue to fight at higher attrition levels.  It is not an exaggeration to say more attack boost equals more forge points.

If you are negotiating, the chart also shows the number of each good that will be required per round in the negotiations.  The goods expense is much less before attrition has increased.  Since we usually know when we are going to face a tough sector that raises our attrition, if you plan to do battles and then negotiate to complete the mission, this will be very expensive on goods.  You may wish to consider negotiating first in these cases to save on goods.  Another advantage in negotiating is that you will gain two advance points on the sector for each negotiation vs only one per battle.  This also means you will get twice the  advances (points) for the amount of attrition increase.   All of this is mute when the priority is speed.  Doing battles is faster and best when speed is the priority.
